Another Wonderful Harvest Day… Wait! It Is January, Isn’t It?

2013spinachYes, the snows have finally melted off the garden well enough that I could venture forth and harvest some more crops.

And, no, we don’t live in the sunny south, we’re in Northern Virginia. But our garden is still producing nicely.

We are still getting carrots, turnips, parsley, broccoli, chard, and spinach, and we made some really scrumptious soup today from all those ingredients.

Since we started getting serious about our garden – canning and freezing a lot of the produce – we are getting all sorts of abundance I never thought possible.

Here at the beginning of a very cold and – mostly – frozen January, we are still eating fresh food. Isn’t nature a marvelous thing? Oh, yeah!

We are not getting enough to can any more but the fact that the garden is still giving us fresh food is exciting.

Does anyone else have a flourishing garden at this time of the year?

Not in my neck of the woods! At least as far as I know…
