Harvest Season Continues

I mentioned we increased the size of our garden this year and started canning.

Last weekend we took a drive up north to Pennsylvania. We like the relaxed atmosphere of the Amish country in Lancaster County.

This visit we saw that the usually pristine house gardens were in a mess. Yes, they had already had a hard freeze with the temperature dropping to about 28°.

Two hours south, our garden had gotten a warning shot of 35° but was still producing. And since our return from PA, we have socked away four more cans of tomatoes, two of jalapeños, six of chard, and two more of green beans.

And it does not look like it is going to freeze here for the next couple of weeks either! We may be able to continue this season into November!!

By then we may be able to get more of everything as well as have the ears of corn get a bit larger.

It will be nice to see how long all this produce can carry us through the winter and help us plan the gardening season for next year.

Sustainability. I would certainly like to get there.
